OUR FOUNDER:

EARLY CAREER:

Our founder Carlos Moreno started boxing at the age of 15 but it was not until he was 18 that he had his first amateur boxing bout vs Carl Marsh [2007], son of former world champion Terry Marsh. After a string of victories in 2008 Carlos entered the national novice championships and reached the national semi-finals, losing to David Leo on a close split decision.

In 2009 Carlos captured the Haringey Box Cup tournament gold medal and went on to win two more international medals, alongside winning the northwest London elite title and reaching the London finals of the elite ABA’s.

Carlos ended his amateur boxing career in 2014 with over 34 fights on his record and having won the Elite Portuguese National Title in his last and final amateur boxing fight to solidify his career and end it on a high note.

PRO BOXING:

Following a successful amateur boxing career, Carlos started sparring fighters like Connor Benn & Ohara Davies while training with coaches Tony & Peter Simms at Matchroom when he was considering turning professional. During this time he was lucky to train with legendary boxer Nigel Benn and also meet with legends of the sport such as Shannon Briggs, Dereck Chisora, David Haye and Mike Tyson’s former trainer Teddy Atlas, in New York when Carlos was considering turning pro in America.

Once the gloves were hung up for definite, Carlos focused on his coaching career in which time he had great opportunities to train some of the best boxers in the world, including current number 1 world ranked boxer Ohara Davies, as well as celebrities such as rapper Professor Green, actor Andrew Garfield and comedian Richard Ayoade.

THE BOXING CLUB:

Moreno Boxing was founded in 2010 by amateur boxing champion Carlos Moreno, we started from humble beginnings running small group classes and PT sessions in a park in southeast London and by 2012 we were ready to move into the London Southbank University Sports Centre.

Progress was swift over the following three years and in 2015 we secured a deal to purchase a little fitness studio called GoFit LTD in Dalston, acquiring rights to the gym lease, equipment and customer list.

Upon converting the fitness studio into a boxing club, the concept proved extremely popular and by 2017 we opened our 2nd branch in Battersea [southwest London] in an industrial estate, but when Covid19 lockdowns began we were forced to close our doors.

When lockdowns were over by 2021 we decided relocate the gym from the little studio in Dalston to a much bigger property literally a stone throw away from where we were located, so we move into Stamford Works which is where we are today.

In the same year we opened a gym in Highgate which we then decided to close due to the property being too small for our needs and also having noise complaints from local residents.

Through our entire journey we have always been blessed to count on God to guide us and we are also extremely grateful to the strong community we have built over the years.
