MORENO BOXING CLASSES

TIB® Fundamentals

LEVEL: Beginner

DURATION: 60 minutes

DESCRIPTION:

This class is for the complete beginner who has never boxed before or anyone who wants to revisit the basics of boxing. At times, even professional boxers need to be reminded of how useful a basic jab can be in a desperate situation, or maybe they need to be reminded of the need to step back and ‘reset’ after throwing punches in order to avoid being hit with a counter.

The fundamentals of boxing are what provide a strong foundation for any boxer of any level, especially complete beginners because if you start off learning everything properly you avoid developing bad habits that could hamper your progress in the long-term. This class is designed to teach you all of the do’s and don’ts of boxing from scratch, such as:

  • How to use a skipping rope to build cardio endurance for boxing and different skipping techniques

  • Wrapping boxing hand bandages properly to avoid injury and strengthen your punches

  • Getting into a basic boxing stance, with the correct feet distance, the 45 degree angle on the shoulders and the hands protecting the chin

  • Different stances -  the different kinds of stances such as; orthodox, southpaw, long lead-arm, high guard and the peekaboo stance

  • The footwork - how to move forward, back, left and right without crossing the feet and compromising your balance, how to ‘step-in’ with punches and then ‘step-out’ to avoid being hit

  • The punches - learn to throw a proper jab, cross, lead hook, back hand hook, lead uppercut and the back hand uppercut without losing your balance and while on the move

  • The 3 types of boxing defense - 1. Blocks and parries with your hands and arms, 2. Head movement using slips and rolls, 3. Footwork movement by stepping in and out, pivoting and side stepping

  • BONUS: learn how to hold pads correctly and how to breathe properly with your punches

CLASS TIPS:

  • A couple of days before attending class you may want to go on a run to get your mind and body into gear, this can be a short 15 min jog to get you into ‘The zone’

  • Bring hand bandages and a bottle of water to class [we sell wraps for £15 and water for £1 at the gym]

TIB®

Technical Sparring

LEVEL: Confident beginner to intermediate

DURATION: 60 minutes

DESCRIPTION:

In this class the focus is on the technical (and fitness) aspects of boxing in a very controlled environment. In contrast to the ‘Open Sparring’ class in which you spar freely, this class imposes a set of rules on the sparring in order to reinforce the learning of new techniques.

For example, you may have a sparring round in which you are only permitted to box using one arm, or in another round you may only be permitted to defend while your sparring partner can attack and you even find you have to defend only using your hands, or head movement or footwork. The possibilities of alternating sparring rules will keep you on your toes and force you to adapt.

CLASS TIPS:

  • This class is recommended for beginners who want to get into sparring in a easy & controlled format and for any participants to want to focus on the technical side of sparring

  • We provide head protectors and gloves but you will need to bring your own mouth-guard and hand wraps

  • We sell hand wraps and mouth-guards, please ask at reception [depends on stock availability]

  • Vaseline grease helps to prevent cuts so bring some and apply it to your face before you begin

TIB® Open Sparring

LEVEL: Confident beginner to intermediate

DURATION: 60 minutes

DESCRIPTION:

This is an ‘Open Sparring’ class all levels who are comfortable with sparring and want a bit more of a challenge with the flexibility of having less technical rules in comparison to the TIB Technical Sparring.

While in the Technical Sparring Class you have rules imposed on what you can and cannot do each round, in the Open Sparring you are permitted to box freely, while remaining responsible and ensuring that you consider your sparring partner’s safety and also remain technically sound.

Any sparring that is too heated and unsafe will be immediately stopped and participants will receive first warning to calm down, if it continues on then the participants will be asked to exit the ring and may not be permitted to spar for a while until they show more self-control.

CLASS TIPS:

  • This sparring class is for all levels and we will pair up participants based on experience / if you are a beginner expect an easier introduction to the class while more advanced boxers can expect a bit more of a challenge

  • We provide head protectors and gloves but you will need to bring your own mouth-guard and hand wraps

  • We sell hand wraps and mouth-guards, please ask at reception [depends on stock availability]

  • Vaseline grease helps to prevent cuts so bring some and apply it to your face before you begin. Also, ensure you have self-control and can manage your aggression in order to make the most out of the session.
